Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith

After enjoying The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency so much last month, I couldn't resist continuing the story with the second book in the series.

In Tears of the Giraffe Mma Ramotswe is given a serious case to solve when a lady consults her about the disappearence of her son ten years before. We also learn more about Mr J.L.B. Maketoni and his life as the owner of Speedy Motors, and we see Mma Ramotswe's family change in some surprising ways.

Like its predecessor, this is a lovely gentle read which will effortlessly transport you to sunny Botswana, the land of cloudless skies and happy, laid-back people. It's great to get to know the characters in a little more depth, particularly Mr J.L.B. Maketoni and Mma Ramotswe's secretary, Mma Makutsi.

There are twelve books in this series (so far), and I just know I'm going to end up reading them all before long. They're just too lovely to ignore.
